In 2016 we celebrate the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the monkey.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.
Proof Quality 99.99% Pure Gold
Each coin is meticulously struck from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. The 2016 silver releases are available as individual 1oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz coins.
2016 Year of the Monkey Design in Colour
The reverse of each coin depicts a coloured adult monkey sitting on a branch of a peach tree, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.
Limited Mintages
The Year of the Monkey 1oz Gold Proof Coloured Edition has a maximum mintage of 3,000, and the 1/4oz and 1/10oz releases both have a maximum mintage of 5,000.
Lunar Presentation Packaging and Numbered Certificates
Each coin is housed in a stylish red and black display case and illustrated lunar-themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
